Debra Crown attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in clinical psychology from the University of Houston, graduating  magna cum Laude.  Afterwards she attended Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU) and obtained a Masters of Arts in clinical psychology--also meeting requirements for state licensure for Licensed Professoinal Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S). She is recognized by the state board as qualified in counseling in private practice as well as training interns to become proficient in the skills, ethics and legal considerations in becoming a professional counselor.

In the course of obtaining a degree and state licensure Debra has been a therapist at the SFASU psychology clinic, Nacogdoches Boys Ranch, and residential treatment centers for adolescents and women ages 18-65 with dual diagnoses (mental health and addiction).

Debra published an article that appeared in the Journal of Family Violence (April, 2006) entitled "The effects of childhood physical abuse or childhood sexual abuse in battered women’s coping mechanisms: Obsessive-compulsive tendencies and severe depression." 

Her master’s research, "Social Intelligence and Deception Detection," was presented at the Association for Psychological Science Conference (New York City, 2006).

Debra is a member of Texas Counseling Association, Houston LPC Association, Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology, and Golden Key National Honor Society.

Debra was a guest speaker at the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals 2009 Conference in Houston. The topic was "Adult Children of Alcholics: Controversy and Research."
