The Supervision Experience
Supervision helps you lay a solid foundation in professional skill development and put into practice the concepts you have learned in graduate school. Your internship is a tremendous period of professional growth--a time for you to translate academic skills into real world application. Through supervision you will hone your professional skills through a variety of activities.
Supervision is intended to accumulate experience and as you do so develop your professional skills in areas that may have only been touched upon in your academic life. As you gain knowledge I will encourage you to apply it in sessions with your clients. The process is intended to take the confusion out of new experiences and encourage mastery of professional standard practices.
Just as it is important for clients to find their footing with your assistance, overtime you will find your individual style of counseling assisted in supervision. I hope to help you on your journey--providing the tools you will need along the way.
